Alice and her sister Poppy are excited about going to stay with their Aunt Hettie at Sparkle Bay. Aunt Hettie is a film-maker, and Poppy dreams of getting a starring role in her next film. They are disappointed to find that their aunt's place is on the edge of a lagoon called Slime Swamp and that they are expected to take part in a search for the Green Warty Swamp Monster.
